One of my favorite Scriptures is Proverbs 14:28 –
“The mark of a good leader is loyal followers. Leadership is nothing without a following.”
If you’re an author, your readers are your followers. If you’re a business leader, your team is.
Four insights from the passage above.
1) Leadership is not defined by your title, but by your followers. Not direct reports – but those who willingly follow you.
2) A GOOD leader has LOYAL followers. If your followers aren’t loyal – look first to your leadership approach. Not their lack of loyalty.
3) The exterior perks of leadership are ultimately empty. Really. Scripture says leadership is NOTHING without a following.
4) Before worrying about who is following you – consider who you’re following. I lead others best when I follow Jesus first.
It’s easy to tell if you have the mark of a good leader. Just turn around.
Your measure of success is quite literally standing (or not) right before your eyes.
